Sean Miller is on the move, leaving Xavier to be the new head men’s basketball coach at Texas. Miller was in his second tenure with the Musketeers (2022-25 and 2004-09) and departs with an overall 185-87 record. His team actually knocked the Longhorns out of this year’s NCAA Tournament last week during the First Four in Dayton.

“Coach Miller has long been known as an exceptional program builder and tremendous developer of players with a highly-respected basketball coaching mind,” AD Chris Del Conte said. “He’s someone I’ve known for a long time and have enjoyed following throughout his career, and I’ve been impressed with the outstanding teams he produces year in and year out. Anyone who is familiar with college basketball history knows he played at a very high level himself back in his day. He has taken that passion for the game and turned it into an accomplished coaching career, cares deeply about the players he coaches and consistently brings the best out of all of them. Coach Miller’s energy is infectious, he is driven to succeed, and he is a truly special person, too. I’m confident our players and coaches will thrive under his leadership, and he will build a successful program that we will all be extremely proud of. Longhorn Nation is going to absolutely love him. The future is bright, and I can’t wait to get him here with our elite group of head coaches.”

Miller has an extensive history as a head coach, which also includes a 12-year run at Arizona where he went to five Sweet Sixteens and won five Pac-12 titles. The 56-year old has 13 total NCAA appearances in his career and is just 13 wins shy of 500 for his career.

The Longhorns were led for the last 2+ seasons by Rodney Terry, who took over during a period of turmoil in 2022 and ultimately led the team to the Elite Eight. The past year was the program’s first in the SEC, where they were one of a record 14 teams to make the Big Dance despite finishing just 6-12 in league play.
