Matthew Driscoll has stepped down as the head coach at North Florida after sixteen seasons at the helm, the school announced on Thursday. Driscoll went 248-264 overall at UNF, taking over in 2009 when the program had only been at the Division I level for a few seasons. During his tenure, he led the Ospreys to three ASUN titles and reached the NCAA Tournament in 2015 after winning the league tournament crown.
“16 years. It is often said that it feels like yesterday and that sentiment is true when I reflect on the joy and honor it has been to be your men’s basketball coach,” Driscoll said. “Carrie, my boys and I arrived here with the mindset to be where our feet were planted, to serve with a genuine, purposeful heart and treat others with respect. Our goals were simply to be servants, instill values and guide young people to become the best version of themselves in every aspect of their lives. Watching our student-athletes strive to be their best and become leaders in their own right has been the most inspiring accomplishment. For this chance of a lifetime, we are eternally grateful.”
Driscoll has accepted the position of associate head coach at Kansas State in the Big 12, where he will work under head coach Jerome Tang. Driscoll and Tang spent six seasons together on staff at Baylor (2003-09) working for Scott Drew.
North Florida is elevating associate head coach Bobby Kennen to interim head coach for the 2025-26 season. Kennen grew up in nearby Ocala, Florida and was Driscoll’s first hire at UNF, working on his staff since 2009 and in his current role since 2012.
