List of NEC Coach of the Year winners

The Northeast Conference (NEC) has given the NEC Jim Phelan Men’s Basketball Coach of the Year award every season since 1982-83. The award was renamed in 2003 to honor longtime Mount St. Mary’s head coach Jim Phelan, who retired after the 2002-03 season. The coach who has won the award the most times (four) is former Central Connecticut head coach Howie Dickenman, with four total. Robert Morris and Central Connecticut are the programs with the most awards (six each), followed by St. Francis Brooklyn and Wagner (five each).
