Former UAB and Stanford head coach Jerod Haase has been formally introduced as the new head coach at UNC Greensboro. Haase is 206-180 record as a D-I head coach and has been to the postseason three times, including a trip to the 2015 NCAA Tournament.
“Jerod brings a wealth of Division I coaching experience across multiple conferences,” said UNCG AD Brian Mackin. “He has demonstrated a meaningful commitment to integrity, academic success and player development. He also understands the importance of cultivating a strong fundraising network and engaging with supporters. We are excited to welcome Jerod and his family to the Spartan community.”
Haase is a member of the Roy Williams coaching tree, having played for Williams at Kansas (1994-97) and then later working under the Hall of Famer at both KU (1999-2003) and North Carolina (2003-12). He was on the coaching staff when the Tar Heels were National Champions in both 2005 and 2009.
He took over at UAB in 2012 and built the Blazers up to a Conference USA Tournament title in year three and regular season title in his fourth and final year. Haase then spent eight seasons at Stanford, proving to be a high-level recruiter and taking the Cardinal to the NIT in 2018.
“My family and I are thrilled to join the Greensboro community,” Haase said in a statement. “In the new era of college athletics, I still believe it is possible to win games, yet not compromise education and relationships. I look forward to developing leaders at UNCG and have teams compete at a very high level. This is an exciting time for me, and I plan to build this program with great enthusiasm.”
UNCG moved on from previous head coach Mike Jones earlier this month after five seasons. The Spartans last played in the NCAA Tournament in 2021, also the year of their most recent SoCon regular season title.
