casey alexander hired kansas state

Belmont’s Casey Alexander has officially been named the new head coach at Kansas State. Alexander went 166-60 in seven seasons with the Bruins, winning conference titles in 2020, 2021 and 2026. Prior to that, he was the head coach at Lipscomb (2013-19) and Stetson (2011-13). He took the Bisons to the NCAA Tournament in 2018 and earned an automatic bid in the cancelled 2020 NCAAs, as well.

“I’m incredibly excited to join the team at K-State and can’t wait to get the journey started,” Alexander said in a statement. “K-State has such a rich tradition and a wildly passionate fan base and I’m grateful for the opportunity provided by Gene Taylor to be a part of it.”

Kansas State moved on from previous head coach Jerome Tang last month after the Wildcats started the season 10-15 (1-11 Big 12). In 2023, Tang led the squad to the NCAA Elite Eight and was named Naismith Coach of the Year. But the team struggled since then, going 47-52 (20-36 Big 12) in the three seasons since.

“We couldn’t be more excited to announce Casey Alexander as the next head men’s basketball coach at K-State,” AD Gene Taylor said. “We had significant interest in our job from numerous talented and successful coaches from around the country. What was evident throughout the search was the positive reputation of K-State basketball, and of the coaches we talked with Casey emerged as the one who best fit our program. He is known nationally as a tremendous evaluator of talent and one of the best offensive minds in the college game. He has built and maintained successful and winning programs at Stetson, Lipscomb and Belmont, and his reputation of developing players and a strong culture all make him a perfect fit for us.”
