Sherrone Moore has been fired with cause after two season as head football coach at Michigan, the school’s AD Warde Manuel announced on Wednesday. In official statement, Manuel said “following a university investigation, credible evidence was found that Coach Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member.” Moore finishes his tenure with an overall record of 16-8 (11-6).
Associate head coach Biff Poggi will serve as interim head coach for the Wolverines’ upcoming Citrus Bowl appearance. Poggi coached the team to two victories earlier this season while Moore was suspended as part of the sign stealing investigation. He is in his third stint with the Wolverines, returning before this season after serving as head coach at Charlotte the last two years.
UPDATE: Sherrone Moore was booked into Washtenaw County Jail late Wednesday after he was reportedly involved in an assault earlier in the day in Saline, Michigan. More on this as it continues to develop.
